What's the best way to break the ice?

Any good conversation starters, or have any of you experienced any unique ones? Prey tell :-)

I did use this line before, and I don’t feel big or clever sharing it, but it was when I was visiting Newcastle when I was much younger:

“Have you ever been in Scotland, or would you like a wee bit of Scotland in you?”

It actually did work. As I say, I don’t feel proud sharing that one, and I’ve significantly better chat these days….probably!

My brother in law used this line on my sister:

“Excuse me, is your name Spanner? Because every time I see you, my nuts tighten.”

They’re still together 20 years later….. :D

Yes, the cost of living crisis is such a bugger.

Have you tried repeatedly boiling a kettle? It's possibly a bit more time consuming, depends how thick you are finding the ice. 😄

I don't know what is it like for other guys on here but it felt like I had to send 10 +messages to get one reply. Even with the same approach trying to say something linked to the profile you more often than not just got ignored. It was really disheartening. It does only take one reply though to click. That took nearly 6 months for me though on and off to meet someone and it is not easy when you are trying to be genuine but dont tick the tall dark and handsome box!! Once it clicked though, it clicked.

I personally always appreciated it when people just took the time to say thanks but no thanks at least, and a couple of the No's I made friends with even if the spark of romance was not there. You can be nice about it but I also hear women get loads of messages, at least initially so I guess wading through is hard too. If you bother to read the message though a nice sorry but no at least is nice.

Breaking through the ice is tough and frustrating when you can't afford the ice axe that allows you to do so.

Don’t date in the months of December-March

I always send a ‘polite ‘ refusal and a good reason for my actions but that doesn’t always work…sadly 😔
