When is it ok to exchange phone numbers?

We've all been chatting on the forum about what makes a good profiles and
initial messaging but when is the best time to give out our phone numbers,
move to another app for messaging or chat on the phone?

I have never given out my number but love Kik. I have thought about telegram and signal, but it looks like they have your number too.
Kik wins :)

Use kik in that case ... you've already set up a "secret" email address for joining IE and that's all you need for kik.

I find it difficult because my phone number can be traced online meaning that as soon as someone has that they know far too much about me so emails is safer than trying to explain to the family why I have 2 phones!

I have a wifey phone. It's a basic phone 2g. I top it up about once a year. And charge it about the same. But that's enough for what we need.

I have an ie phone, that's all apps and such and wizard fun to use and full of women who can't wait to meet me.

I would exchange numbers when I am comfortable, but only for use in emergencies or by agreement to coordinate. For all other purposes - its not safe. A trace, is a trace...If you want to remain discrete, use an email, but not a phone. They are not designed for this and you are sure to trip. Friendly advice. Play safe...

I personally never give out my phone number. I would if I met the right person . I use kik . I have a false name user and login so they have no idea if my name unless I want to give it to them . I’ve had problems in the past with a virtual stalker and won’t make that mistake again.

I move to Telegraph fairly quickly and give out number when we've met.
Me and ie have rules about when to phone and always message first to make sure.

@yorkshire lass68

When I was last in meaningful communication with someone on here just before lockdown it was on kik and it worked fantastically well. Then I suggested a chat on the phone before arranging our first meeting which she very much welcomed. I gave her my phone number on trust and agreed a time for her to call her when it was convenient and safe for her to do so. She never did and ghosted me. I guess the prospect of talking to a real person in real time was too real for her, but I will never know.
