Hi to all, well my two pence worth is that both groups in general do this to get what is lacking in their current relationship. It can be just a single reason or a myriad of reasons that we are lacking on any aspect of human attributes.

@ BrownEyedGirl01

Isn't marriage supposed to be about creating a safe and predictable domestic arrangement?

After being a loyal wife for many years in a marriage that went completely vanilla/predictable/safe, we became more friends than anything else. So I needed to have that missing piece filled. I needed the excitement, passion, lust and also to be desired back in my life again.... it’s been all of the above and more!

@ T di V.

Exactly! That's the reason, but I do hope you are not implying that its mens domestic shortcomings that explain and justify women having affairs. For every man that has an affair, there is a complicit and willing woman.

Not interested in a committed relationship

So, married man is ideal choice ...

I was once told this ‘a woman needs a reason whereas a man just needs a place’. A little unfair maybe but as a woman I’d say that without exception every woman I know who’s cheated had done it because of something that’s lacking at home, whether it’s emotionally or physically

Because monogomy is neither a natural nor usually fulfilling lifestyle for either sex but is a construct of The State and The Church to organise society into small, easily controllable , self regulating self supporting contained nuclear family units to avoid the inevitable socio economic chaos in a modern civilised society that would ensue otherwise. At least as far as "Western society" is concerned. Other world cultures and races have their own systems and regulating mechanisms.

If you take away the economic imperative to provide a stable family home until the offspring are old enough to fend for themselves and moral constraints imposed by organised conventional religion, I think both men and women are equally tempted by, and susceptible to, polygamy
