I find it hard to understand why people put such bad out of focus blurry photos on their profiles! Shall we help with some tips for the best selfie?

Never mind the blurry photo,it's worse when part of the head is missing or there's a weird background. It says more about the person if they think their bad photo presents them in the best light....

I had one (much younger) guy, to whom I'd said my most charming "Thanks, but no thanks" message, but he wouldn't take "No'" for an answer.
He put my photos through some kind of photo recognition app. Then contacted me, telling me what he'd discovered about me, then suggested that I might as well accept his invitation, unless I wanted everyone to know about my presence here!
Maybe blurry photos are the safest???

That happened to me, too!
His photo showed him smiling graciously, in cap and gown, accepting his doctorate.
He turned up with a walking frame, and he actually drooled! (and I'd invited him for the weekend).
It was the longest 2 days of my life!

We messaged ages, he looked good on his photo. Spoke and WhatsApp lots
Finally met , when I parked up ..in my rear view mirror I clocked a old guy walking up to my car
I thought NO f**king Way!
He surely could tell by my face I was shocked!
20 years older
2 foot smaller
2 stone heavier
Needless to say ... a short coffee and I made my escape!

Would it be acceptable in that case to photoshop any features to improve them? All images have the ability to have a variance against reality, even without photoshop

These comments seem to get off topic quickly!
On the subject, as a professional photographer I am willing to point anyone in the right direction and personally I’d say for the best results stay away from your phone and ensure you have good lighting and try to be natural. If you want some inspiration try looking up some classical portrait painting, Rembrandt maybe the best.
But you would do well to invest in a shoot with someone who knows what they are doing and has access to the right equipment and had the knowledge - bit like sex really!
